Mom just finished decorating the tree. Hell Kitty is transfixed, sitting and staring at the lights. Step-father got out of his chair to give his opinion. He said,

"Kirei!" (Japanese for pretty) then squeezed one of the branches. "It's fresh," he said.

There's a fire in the fireplace, food in the kitchen, and a roof over our heads. What more could anyone want?

And there's my moment of sappiness . . . happy Christmas,y'all.
