My first foray into overtly political poetry. I figured it'd be either a disaster, a joy, or mediocre at best. (I got's ALL the bases covered.) You be the judge.

White House

What colour should we paint the White House

The white of innocence

The white of purity

The white of righteousness

The white of doves

No longer applies

The colour that we paint the White House is

The white of scattered bones

The white of a shroud

The white of lilies

The white of gravestones

Just like the ones in Arlington.

Hell, I don't know.

Had a wee adventure this afternoon. Our fearless leader for the writing class/lit. mag., call him "Mal'occhio", offered to take anyone interested to the small press that does our work. Two other cohorts-in-crime and I were driven in style (a white Volkswagen Vanagon) to downtown Portland. We met the often-quoted and supposed curmudgeon, Mac, and took a brief tour around his establishment.

It was interesting to see the process of offset printing. All the different types of papers and inks had me itching to play. There was a guy doing something intriguing with rubber printing blocks filled with elaborate, Victorian-style dingbats.

We also got a peek at the PCC-Cascade literary magazine, The Pointed Circle which was still in whole sheet form. Mac ran down the process of perfect binding, which is how we have The Alchemy bound.

Pretty dang cool.
