It looks as if we're getting a part-time employee at the shop.

Yay.

In compensation for the insanity of the last month (and more), the company gave me two movie passes to the mainstream movie behemoth in Stumptown. Whoop-dee-doo. Two tickets to see some mainstream, over-produced Hollywood pap in exchange for my sanity. How about a gift certificate for a massage? Or a manicure? Or free lunch/dinner somewhere? Or (here's the really radical thought) a simple thank you, sincerely offered. Don't tell me that a paycheck should be thank you enough. We're people, designed through long years to be social creatures--a heartfelt thank you can go a very long way. Maybe it's that I want acknowledgment that I'm human--not a cog in a money-making scheme. I mean, money's nice, but it's not the reason we exist. We exist for each other, in all our complexity, brilliance, and stupidity.

Thank goodness my new manager is a genteel sort who thanks me for being there every day. I thank him too--without his character, I'd have run amuck with the guillotine cutter a long time ago.

I'm off~
