Another delicious (and strange) dinner; sausages and dinner rolls with kalamata olives. Friday's pay day, and the checking account's looking mighty slim. It's time to dive into all the staples that I bought in better times.

Took stock last night. Herrings in lemon and pepper. Lots of pasta. Black beans. Peanut butter. Ramen noodles (with staggering amounts of sodium). A jar of alfredo sauce. Some seaweed. Brown rice. Powdered hot chocolate mix. Olive oil. Garlic. (Who runs out of garlic, eh?)

The 'fridge is another matter. There are several covered dishes that have gone beyond the "check it out" phase. There's an old butter tub that's bulging in a fascinating way. A loaf of scrapple lurks in one corner.

Ahhh, scrapple. Mom brought it back the last time she was back East. It's a food that brings back memories of late Sunday breakfasts and early-morning, post-nightclubbing feedings at the Tastee Diner in Bethesda, Maryland. It's also one of those regional foods that you either grew up with and love it. Or you don't. I generally explain it to people as Pennsylvania Dutch pork haggis. That stops further questioning most of the time.

Oof. It's off to the motorcycle meeting. Whoop.
