A fairly quiet weekend. A lot of drawing, some writing. Still devouring Billy Collins and I picked up a copy of T.S. Eliot's The Wasteland. My, ain't I gettin' edjimacated and stuff?

I wrote a poem last night that I'll put up later today. It's about falling asleep with poets. [Added at 9:10 a.m. - Fritz]

I've been thinking about religion lately. Yesterday when the Superbowl was on and I was drawing bowls and ad came on. It was for a new show called Joan of Arcadia. Seems that it's about a girl to whom god speaks.

Huh?

Where are the shows where Rama, Kali, Aten, Wodin, the Great Spirit and all the others speak? Where is the show where Allah speaks?

Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a show in which the average American kid becomes enlightened, then travels around, being a bodhidharma?

Are we swinging back into another Great Revival of American Judeo-Christian religiosity? Great. Just what we needed. I can see the historical forces in effect -- the uncertainty of the world, the economic situation -- these tend to create fear about the future. People turn to religion when they're uncertain and death feels near.

What is this need for joining little herds of fellow-thinkers? Is it weariness in thinking for oneself? Have the baboos realised that they're gonna die no matter what they do and they're starting to get scared?

Goodness. I had no intention of going on about this, but grey Mondays have their own logic.
