All weekend long one of the science channels is airing so-called "classic" television programs about science. Yesterday was all about Mr. Wizard, and today is a lot about James Burke and Connections. Therein lies the root of my scientific dilettantism--that show in particular. Whee!

Last evening I looked out the back bedroom window and saw a raccoon on the fence. It moved like someone nervous about heights. The last thing I saw was the raccoon lowering itself into the yard behind. It looked like a salaryman lowering himself into a soaking tub. His back was to the corner of the fence and he rested all his weight on his front legs. Odd.

HellKitty was livid beneath her fur, I could tell. Back and forth she scurried, pupils dilated, making little growly noises. She seemed disappointed when the raccoon went away.

Went across the street last evening for a couple of hours. The young man of the note on Tora (who I met again at another party and who, it turns out, has a friend in common with me) rang the doorbell and asked if I wanted to come over for barbecue and homebrew beer.

Well dang!

Went over, drank a glass of good beer (I am not a beer fan, but this was yummy) and talked. He and his friends got all gung-ho, dug a firepit in the backyard, and made a little fire. Then the horseshoes came out, but plans to play were abandoned when the fourth horseshoe could not be found. Probably just as well, since it was around 11PM, and throwing horseshoes is not a whisper-time activity. The cat got out (again, apparently) and I had some delicious peach cobbler.

MMmmm.
