Argh.

A friend's grandmother died this morning. I just got back from spending the evening drinking and listening to him remember her.

He pulled out some coins that she'd saved. He described photos of her and his grandfather from when she was young and sassy. There was one, he said, of his grandmother and grandfather on a beach with another couple. His grandmother is "totally making out" with his grandfather. Isn't that a great memory to have?

My grandfather carried a picture of my grandmother in a rubber bathing suit in his wallet. I guess the picture was taken before they were married, so...late 1930s. Grandma always kvetches about what a hassle it was to get into the suit. Then she smiles. I love that she wore it to catch his eye.

It's easy to forget that our parents and grandparents had lives before we knew them. I love the reminders.
